Slow performance is one of the most frustrating issues that pc users experience, especially with older systems. This is because older computers typically contain a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) rather than a Solid-State Drive (SSD).
Did you know that replacing your older disk drive with an SSD can instantly speed up your computer? SSDs used to be far more expensive than HDDs and were often not worth the price. That is not true anymore, as the cost of SSDs has dropped tremendously, making them more popular than ever.
What is an SSD, exactly?
An SSD provides primary storage for your computer, just like an HDD. However, an SSD has no moving parts and is structurally similar to a flash drive. In other words: Instead of reading and writing data to a spinning platter, an SSD stores data on flash memory chips, much like a USB flash drive or phone memory card.
Why upgrade to an SSD?
- Speed: If you have an older computer, upgrading to an SSD will give it new life! Boot times, opening and transferring files can instantly be 3-5 times faster than before.
- Durability: An SSD will, on average last two to three times longer than a traditional HDD. Because they don’t contain any moving parts, they are far more durable against bumps and shocks.
- Less Noise: Often, you can hear your hard drive spinning as it is working. You will not hear this sound using an SSD because there are no moving parts.
- Less Heat: SSDs disperse less heat than classic HDDs; this is optimal because excessive heat can destroy your computer
- Less Power Usage: Battery life on a laptop will significantly improve because SSDs consume far less power.

The universe doesn’t fail to amaze me with the new knowledge I gain daily. Thank you for writing this because it shed a lot of light upon my decision to change from a HDD to an SSD. To be honest I really didn’t even know the different but i do now thanks to you. I look forward to experiencing the new speed.
